Kelly Construction & Design delivered a full design/build project for Goddess and the Baker, completing a 2,771-square-foot café and coffee shop from a true white box at The Corners development in Brookfield, Wisconsin. From early planning through final turnover, KCD led the process with a collaborative, solutions-focused approach to bring the space to life on schedule, on budget, and with the level of quality expected of a high-traffic hospitality environment.
Working closely with the BA Ownership team, The Corners’ developer and on-site project management staff, and Engberg Anderson Architects, Kelly Construction & Design coordinated all aspects of construction to transform the vacant shell into a fully operational restaurant. The scope included complete buildout of the interior dining area, coffee service bar, kitchen and prep spaces, restrooms, and back-of-house support areas.
As a design/build project, early coordination was key. KCD worked alongside the ownership and design team to align budget expectations with design intent, proactively addressing constructability, material selections, and MEP integration before construction began. This streamlined decision-making and ensured efficient sequencing once work was underway.
The café-style concept required careful coordination of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to support espresso equipment, refrigeration, food prep areas, and customer service operations. Electrical distribution was designed to accommodate specialty coffee equipment and lighting that enhances the bright, energetic atmosphere. Plumbing infrastructure was installed to support beverage service, hand sinks, and kitchen operations, while HVAC systems were integrated to maintain comfort within an open dining environment.
Interior finishes and millwork were executed with attention to detail, reflecting the brand’s modern, inviting aesthetic. The coffee bar and service counters were constructed to maximize workflow efficiency while maintaining a polished presentation for customers. Durable materials were selected to withstand daily use while preserving the clean, contemporary feel of the space.
Because the project was located within a larger mixed-use retail development, coordination with the developer and neighboring tenants was essential. KCD maintained consistent communication with The Corners’ management team to align construction schedules, utility tie-ins, inspections, and site logistics — ensuring smooth progress within the active commercial environment.
Through disciplined project management and strong collaboration, Kelly Construction & Design successfully delivered Goddess and the Baker as a vibrant addition to The Corners. The completed space provides a welcoming café atmosphere backed by the infrastructure and craftsmanship required for a high-performing restaurant operation — another example of KCD’s expertise in hospitality-focused design/build construction.
