The MobCraft Brewery project in Milwaukee’s Walker’s Point neighborhood represents the successful adaptive reuse of a former Waste Transfer Building, transforming it into MobCraft’s main beer production facility with an integrated full-service restaurant and bar. Working in collaboration with the project team, Kelly Construction & Design delivered a complex build that balances industrial functionality with public-facing hospitality spaces.
The existing structure required significant upgrades to support its new use as a specialty beer production facility. Construction efforts focused on adapting the building’s infrastructure to accommodate brewing operations, including structural coordination, utility upgrades, and the installation of systems necessary for large-scale production. These improvements were carefully integrated into the existing shell, preserving the building’s industrial character while ensuring it could support modern brewing demands.
A major component of the project involved constructing the restaurant and bar areas within the same footprint as the production space. This required precise coordination between production, service, and customer areas to ensure operational efficiency, safety, and code compliance. The result is a facility that allows patrons to experience the brewing process firsthand while enjoying food and beverage service in a welcoming, functional environment.
One of the most prominent features of the project is the installation of multiple glass garage doors along the exterior. These large openings create a strong connection between the interior spaces and the outdoors, allowing the restaurant and bar areas to open directly onto a large patio. The garage doors required structural modifications and careful installation to maintain building integrity while providing smooth operation and durability in Wisconsin’s seasonal climate.
Throughout the project, Kelly Construction & Design prioritized efficient scheduling, coordination with specialty trades, and attention to detail. Working within an existing industrial structure presented unique challenges, including integrating new systems with old construction and meeting current building and safety codes. Our team addressed these challenges through careful planning and hands-on problem-solving during every phase of construction.
The completed MobCraft Brewery stands as a strong example of how industrial buildings can be repurposed into vibrant, functional spaces that serve both production and public use. The project highlights Kelly Construction & Design’s experience in adaptive reuse, hospitality construction, and industrial-to-commercial conversions, delivering a facility that supports MobCraft’s operations while contributing to the ongoing revitalization of the Walker’s Point neighborhood.
