What makes a construction project successful in your eyes? Is it one that comes in on-time and on-budget? Or one that stands out for qaulity, profitability or environmental performance? No matter how you define success, as an owner, you probably think a lot about the factors that can determine success or disapointment.
We think about what determines success, too, for the owners we work with and our company. We've put together this list as a starting point for conversation, and invite you to share it.

The first thing that made the list is trust in the contracting firm you choose to work with. You know pretty much instantly when you believe in someone. You know in your gut if what they say rings true. Without a feeling of trust, you can't move forward.
Next are two attributes that are directly related to trust: Integrity and delivering on promises.
Integrity goes beyond honesty; it's about having a strong sense of ethics and never deviating from it. Everybody claims to have integrity but sometimes you need to talk with past customers and suppliers to learn about a firm's integrity track record. And the same goes for learning if a GC delivers what they promise.
Creativity isn't a "nice to have"; it's a "must have" in our business. Does the team bring fresh thinking and offer solutions that are unexpected yet brilliant? Your project's success could very well depend on creative problem-solving of the challenges that are around every corner.
Another critical attribute is flexibility. At KCD, we really hear and respect others' points of view. That enables us to see past our own preferences and collaborate for the best solution. When you want a team approach on a complex job, it takes flexibility to achieve that team's best work.
The final attribute that made our list ie experience. We were all young once and know now what we didn't know then. After 35 years in the business, we see potential issues way before they present themselves and the same with opportunities. When you talk to KCD, you see, hear and feel our deep industry experience as well as our passion for great work.
Recently, we were awarded a project even though our bid wasn't the lowest. What did the owner see in us? Well, our recommendations for enhancing the space spoke volumes about our knowledge, creativity and experience. In that first meeting, trust was established, and we're excited to show the owner he made the right decision.
We all know there's no magic formula for a successful building project. However, you stand an excellent chance of achieving success when your contractor selection is guided by trust, integrity, delivering on promises, creativity, flexibility and experience. One place you can find all of the above is Kelly Construction & Design. Call us about your next successful project.
